Robert T. McAndrews, 83, of Cambridge, died Sunday (September 14, 2014) at the Beckett House at New Concord. He was born April 15, 1931 in Woodsfield, son of the late John McAndrews and Elizabeth (Taylor) McAndrews. Mr. McAndrews had been a park manager at Rocky Fork and then at Salt Fork State Park, where he was the youngest park manager in the state. He was an excellent basketball player, earning the title of All-Ohio in 1949 while at Woodsfield High School. He received a four-year scholarship at Case Western Reserve for football and basketball, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He served as president of Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity while at college. Mr. McAndrews served in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War, earning the rank of 1st Lieutenant for his service. He was involved with the Army of Occupation in Japan. He was a huge fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes and the New York Yankees. He was a life member of the BPOE # 448 of Cambridge. He is survived by his wife, Eileen (Kelley) McAndrews, whom he married December 26, 1953; a daughter, Melissa (& Gary) Felumlee of New Concord; and his special friends, Jeff and Debbie Russ, Bill Howell, and Paula Bakos. Visitation will be held Thursday (September 18, 2014) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. with Rev. Jeff Russ officiating. Burial will be at Northwood Cemetery, with military honors conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council. As an expression of sympathy, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to one of the following organizations: 1) Guernsey County Humane Society, PO Box 422, Cambridge OH 43725; or 2) Guernsey County Dog Shelter, 62824 Bennett Ave, Cambridge OH 43725.
