Robert "Bob" Louis Metzger, 91, of Cambridge and a former resident of Dublin Ohio for over thirty years, passed away Tuesday (December 16, 2008) at the Genesis-Good Samaritan Medical Center, Zanesville. Bob was the youngest and third child of Mary "Mayme" Mulholland Auchey Metzger and Charles Henry "Harry" Metzger. He was born October 18, 1917 and raised in Greenville, Ohio. He was named after poet/author Robert Louis Stevenson. Harry was a teacher and a football coach and Bob was the water boy for the Greenville High School team. Bob graduated from Greenville High School and he attended Riverside Junior College in Riverside, California. He graduated from The Ohio State University with a degree in Social Work. Bob was a member of The Ohio State University Faculty Club and a member of The Ohio State University Presidents Club. He married Louise Harvey Metzger on December 22, 1942. Bob was a captain in the U.S. Army Air Corps, where he was a hump pilot who survived two airplane crashes. He was a member of the Hump Pilots Association. He was Post Commander of the American Legion Memorial Post # 614 of Hilliard, Ohio. He taught sixth grade for a year in Hilliard City Schools. He was a real estate broker, a longtime member of the Columbus Board of Realtors and a longtime real estate appraiser with numerous accreditations. He served as a former Franklin County Clerk of Courts from 1958 through 1960 and was a lifelong member of the Democratic Party. Bob spent fifty plus years owning and breeding Brittany Spaniels hunting dogs. Bob's favorite movie was God is My Co-Pilot. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a toddler son, Timmy; siblings, Jack Metzger and Dorothy Fenn; and his wife of fifty-seven years, Louise. He is survived by a daughter, Sally Anne, and grandson, Michael M. Metzger; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Family and friends may call on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home (139 S 9th Street, Cambridge OH), where services will be held on Friday (December 19, 2008) at 10 a.m. with Father Chester Pabin officiating. Burial will be at Otterbein Cemetery, Westerville.
