Robert E. Warne

Robert E. Warne, 90, of Salesville, died Thursday (January 14, 2010) at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center, Cambridge. He was born August 11, 1919 in Guernsey County, son of the late Paul E. Warne and Celia (Miller) Warne. Mr. Warne retired from the former Cambridge State Hospital after twenty-years of service. He was also a farmer, operating a Lore City farm off of Winterset Lane for many years. He raised cattle, corn and hay. He was a member of the Salesville Church of Faith. He was an avid hunter in his leisure time. He enjoyed baseball and reading western novels. He also enjoyed gardening, especially growing vegetables and sharing them with others. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Celia Jean Warne; a grandson, Kenny Warne; a brother, Gillespie Warne; four sisters, Virginia Jirles, Fern Hill, Ruth Markley and Lena Warne; and a step-son, Eugene Ayers. He is survived by his wife, Edith (Whetstone) Warne of the home, whom he married November 10, 1984; two sons, Charles R. Warne of Minnesota and Kenneth R. (& Georgia) Warne Sr. of Cambridge; a daughter, Karen J. (& John) Casterline of Quaker City; two step-sons, David L. (& Bonnie) Ayers of Canton and James E. (& Beth) Ayers of Lore City; a step-daughter, Brenda J. (& Dan) Kirk of Canton; three sisters, Mary Tipton of Old Washington, Yvonna Stewdard of Lima and Betty Molisee of Lore City; twenty-two grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; many nieces & nephews; and his dog, Spot. Family and friends may call on Monday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where funeral services will be held on Tuesday (January 19, 2010) at 11 a.m. with Pastor John Neff officiating. Burial will be at Guernsey Memory Gardens, Cambridge.
