Rory Avery Hensley

June 22, 1984 — September 21, 2013

Rory Avery Hensley, 29, of Salesville died Saturday, September 21, 2013. He was born June 22, 1984 in Cambridge, son of Richard Alan Hensley I and Mary E. (Oliver) Hensley. Mr. Hensley was self-employed. He was a 2002 graduate of Buckeye Trail High School and attended Belmont Technical College. Rory will be remembered as "being to smart for his own good", and for living by his favorite creed "Death Before Dishonor" in regard to his family and close friends. He was known for his charismatic sly grin and mischievous spirit. As a toddler, despite any hunch that Rory was "up to something" he succeeded to outwit those in his presence. To his grandma Hensley, Rory was her "little dickens", and to his great-grandma Oliver a "little piss pot". In the eyes of them both, he could do no wrong. And so began a life long talent of charming the ladies. He loved the outdoors, bonfires with good people, and new adventures. He enjoyed riding dirt bikes, wake boarding, snow skiing, hunting, traveling to bike rallies, and riding the mechanical bull at Jamboree In The Hills. His friends and family will remember him as being a happy, and loyal guy that loved to talk on the phone. He loved his 5 nieces. Rory taught them how to make the cheesiest mac-n-cheese, and enjoyed spending time with them jumping on the trampoline, wrestling, and cooking. As a child he played biddy league football for the "Raiders". In high school, he was a football player for the "Warriors" and played a year for the "Colts". On the field he was a dynamic contender playing with such intensity that he once cracked his helmet. Rory embraced his Keltic heritage, proud that his brethren kin past are of the Ulster Scot Irish who took over and settled the Smokey Mountains. Most notable, he carried the bloodline of the Keltic Chieftin hero of Kings Mountain fame; the first Governor of Tennessee, John Sevier. Rory had a kindred Keltic soul showing the Keltic spirit and ideologies of the Kirk are alive and well in America today. He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Alan Hensley II, and grandparents Delores L. Sigman Oliver, Julia Oliver, William E. Hensley and Lucille Hensley. He is survived by his parents, Richard Alan Hensley I and Mary E. (Oliver) Hensley of Salesville; a sister, Richelle (Brian) Reid of Grove City; his maternal grandfather, Richard Oliver Sr. of Cambridge; his uncle, Rick Oliver of Columbus; a sister-in-law, Vickie (Waers) Hensley; nieces Elizabeth D. Hensley, Tabitha M. Reid, Sierra M. Reid, Olivia D. Reid, Ella L. Reid and his second cousin Harley Hensley; and several aunts, uncles, cousins. Family and friends may call on Saturday (October 5, 2013) from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where a memorial service will follow at 4 p.m.
