Roy Melvin Johnson, 97, of Salesville, died Sunday (April 6, 2014) at Countryview Assisted Living Center, Lore City.
He was born July 8, 1916 in Salesville, son of the late John Johnson Jr. and Edith Dora (Kayes) Johnson.
Mr. Johnson was a farmer. He also retired in 1985 from the Ohio Department of Transportation, where he had been a rest area caretaker for thirteen years.
He was a member of the Middlebourne United Methodist Church and a former member of the Salem Baptist Church. He accepted the Lord at an early age and dedicated his life to the Lord and his family.
Mr. Johnson was a 1934 graduate of Quaker City High School.
He was a member of the Farm Bureau and the Leatherwood Senior Citizens.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Faye (Carter) Johnson, who died July 9, 2008. They were married August 24, 1940. Also deceased is a brother, Everett Johnson; and a brother-in-law, Jack Weir.
He is survived by three sons, Larry L. (& Nancy) Johnson of Salesville, Kenneth C. (& Arletta) Johnson of Salesville, and Randall E. (& Gwen) Johnson of Conway SC; a daughter, Linda S. (& Richard) Cox of Salesville; a sister, Hazel Weir of Lancaster TX; twelve grandchildren; and twenty-eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Quaker City, where funeral services will be held Wednesday (April 9, 2014) at 11 a.m. with Pastor Richard Cox officiating.
Burial will be at Friends Cemetery, Quaker City.
