Roy L. Morris, 80, of Cambridge, died Tuesday (November 17, 2009) at his home. He was born July 1, 1929 in Zanesville, son of the late Rodney Morris and Hilda (Law) Morris. Mr. Morris was a practicing attorney in Cambridge for over fifty years. He was in practice with Attorney Gerald Jones, who joined him right after finishing law school. Mr. Morris was also the Guernsey County Assistant Prosecutor for twenty-five years. Mr. Morris was a 1947 graduate of Cambridge High School, a 1951 graduate of The Ohio State University where he earned a bachelor's degree in business accounting and a 1954 graduate of The Ohio State University Law School. While attending The Ohio State University, he was in charge of the "Block O", a member of the Sophomore, Junior and Senior Honorary, a member of the Phi Mu Delta fraternity and a member of The Ohio Staters Fan Support Group. He was also a past member of the OSU Athletic Council. Mr. Morris was a very active member of the First United Methodist Church of Cambridge and held various offices within the church. He was past president of the Cambridge Country Club, a member of the Elks #448, past president of the Cambridge Rotary Club where he had perfect attendance, past president of the Cambridge Little League and former president of the Quaker City National Bank. Mr. Morris was a US Army veteran, having served his country for two years. He was a devoted family man who loved watching his grandchildren play sports. He was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes and Cambridge Bobcats fan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, David, who died in 1963. He is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, June (Nugen) Morris of the home. They were married August 30, 1953. Also surviving are three sons, Tim Morris of Panama City FL, Barry (& Ingrid) Morris of Winter Springs FL and their children Brad & Sydney, and Steve (& Denise) Morris of Tampa FL and their children Tayler, Emily and Brad; a daughter, J.J. (& Kevin) Smith of Cambridge and their children Ian and Adam. Family and friends may call on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Cambridge. Funeral services will be held on Friday (November 20, 2009) at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Cambridge, with Rev. Dr. Terry Litton officiating. Burial will be at Northwood Cemetery, Cambridge.
