Russell Lee "Turk" Murphy (Murph), 89, of Cambridge, died Thursday (November 14, 2013) at the Red Carpet Health Care Center. He was born October 9, 1924 in St. Clairsville, son of the late Lawrence F. "Turk" Murphy and Dora (Workman) Murphy. Mr. Murphy retired from Columbia Gas of Ohio, where he had been an engineer. He was a 1942 graduate of Barnesville High School. He was a 1951 graduate of Indiana Technical College, earning a Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. Mr. Murphy was a sixty-five year member of Friendship Masonic Lodge # 89 F&AM of Barnesville, a member of BPO Elks 448 of Cambridge, and a life member of Cambridge VFW Post 2901. He was a US Army veteran, having served in Saipan during WWII. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Murphy Miller. He is survived by his wife, Paula June (Loy) Murphy, whom he married June 19, 1964; two daughters, Kimber Lee (& Jerry) Cousins of Columbus and Kassie Louise (& Roy) Hook of Columbus; two grandchildren, Mindy Lee Hurley and Robert E. Balzano both of Columbus; a nephew, Tom (& Angie) Decker of Heath; and four nieces, Debbie (& Jeff) Baucher of Heath, Lee Ann (& Larry) Cunningham of Cambridge, Mickie Sue Novian (& Wade Raquet) of Leander TX, and Tommi Ann (& Curtis) Wright of Brady TX. Family and friends may call on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where funeral services will be held Monday (November 18, 2013) at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at Guernsey Memory Gardens, Cambridge, with military graveside honors conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council.
