Ruth Elizabeth Carothers

Ruth Elizabeth Carothers, 89, of Kimbolton, died Saturday (March 28, 2009) at her home. She was born on November 1, 1919 in Kimbolton, daughter of the late Jasper Fred Umstott and Ida Myrtle (Wilson) Umstott. She married Leonard P. Carothers on September 23, 1939. Mrs. Carothers was a homemaker. She enjoyed tending to her flowers, gardening, reading, crocheting and quilting. She was a 1937 graduate of Plainfield High School. Mrs. Carothers was a member of the Mt. Hermon Presbyterian Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard, who died in 1985; two sisters, Wilma and infant sister, Lucille; and an infant brother, Willard. She leaves a son, Leland Carothers of Kimbolton; a daughter, Louise (& Wayne) Swigert of Newcomerstown; two brothers, John (& Helen) Umstott of Tucson AZ and Raymond Umstott of Kimbolton; two grandchildren, Jennifer Lendon of Bethesda and Matthew Swigert of Newcomerstown; four great-grandchildren, Sadie Lendon, Bea Lendon, Millie Lendon and Ethan Swigert; and several nieces & nephews. Family and friends may call on Tuesday (March 31, 2009) from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where services will follow at 2 p.m. with Pastor Nelson Miller officiating. Burial will be at Kimbolton Cemetery, Kimbolton. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the Flat Ridge Mennonite Church.
