Ruth Eloise Laird, 89, of Cambridge, died Monday (May 7, 2007) at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center, Cambridge. She was born on June 2, 1917 in Marietta, daughter of the late Fred Hartwig and Flora (Close) Hartwig. She married Allan L. Laird Sr. on September 21, 1940. Mrs. Laird worked at Universal Pottery and later retired from Oxford Tile. She was a 1935 graduate of Brown High School. She attended the Ninth Street United Methodist Church of Cambridge. Mrs. Laird was a charter member of the Women's Bowling League and a member of the Mother Singers & the Avalon Bridge Club. She was a former member of the Eastern Star and she had worked with the Board of Elections. Mrs. Laird enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She loved her pet cats dearly. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Allan L. Laird Sr., who died on March 14, 1986; a son, Allan L. Laird Jr.; a sister, Ivah Gallagher; a brother, Carl Hartwig; a great-grandson, Justin Laird; and a step-granddaughter, Kassie Carroll. She leaves a son, Thomas (& Nancy) Laird of Cambridge; two daughters, Karen (& Kermit) Trott of Cambridge and Connie (& Jim Hollins) Laird of Cambridge; a brother, Harry Hartwig of Columbus; a sister, Kathryn Metz of Belle Mead NJ; eight grandchildren and three step-grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Family and friends may call on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where services will be held on Thursday (May 10, 2007) at 1 p.m. with Pastor Wib Bragg officiating. Burial will be at Northwood Cemetery, Cambridge.
