Samuel "Pop" Edward Crews

Samuel Edward "Pop" Crews, 76, of Cambridge, died Thursday (March 8, 2012) at the Red Carpet Health Care Center, Cambridge. He was born March 13, 1935 in Bridgeport WV, son of the late Benjamin Franklin Crews and Helena Mae (Spargrove) Crews. Mr. Crews was an eleven-year veteran of the Cambridge City Police Department, where he had served as captain. In fact at that time, he was the first appointed captain of the Cambridge City Police Department in over forty years. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He was a US Navy veteran, having served during the Korean War. He was a member of the Cambridge VFW Post 2901. He loved woodworking. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Deidre Bridgette (Torpey) Crews, who died in December of 2001; a brother, Harry; a sister, Betty; and a great-granddaughter, Sophia Rain Adair. He is survived by five sons, Mark (& Susan) Crews of Zanesville, Guy (& Lauren) Crews of South Carolina, Samuel Jeffrey (& Kimberly) Crews of Cambridge, Joseph Crews of Cambridge, and Matthew (& Heather) Crews of Cambridge; three daughters, Melonie Harrington of Elizabeth City NC, Sabrina Crews of Cambridge, and Melissa (& Robert) Kennedy of Byesville; eighteen grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Family and friends may call on Monday (March 12, 2012) from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Black-Epperson Funeral Home, Byesville, where military funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council.
