Samuel P. Gibson, 86, of Cambridge, died Saturday (July 16, 2011) at his home. He was born July 18, 1924 in Kimbolton, son of the late James Harlan Gibson and Mary Edna (Durben) Gibson. Mr. Gibson retired from the former Cambridge State Hospital on July 31, 1986. He was a carpenter and foreman. He attended the Byesville Assembly of God Church, where he was active for many years. Mr. Gibson was a skillful carpenter who built several homes for himself and his family. He enjoyed working outside in his yard, feeding the wildlife, and his woodworking. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-seven years, Marjorie E. "Marge" (Duff) Gibson, who died April 9, 2011. They were married on September 5, 1943. Also deceased are two sons, Dan Gibson and Jeff Gibson; four brothers, Max, Bob, Raymond, and Clarence Gibson; and six sisters, Maxine Nalley, Jane Thompson, Louisa Kennedy, Fern Bell, Inez Kennedy, and Pauline Davis. He is survived by a son, Chuck (& Marilyn) Gibson of Cambridge; a daughter, Judy Eibel of Cambridge; two brothers, George (& Norma) Gibson of Cambridge and Jim (& Doris) Gibson of Cambridge; a daughter-in-law, Connie Gibson of Cambridge; six grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Family and friends may call on Wednesday (July 20, 2011) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. with Pastor Dan Milburn officiating. Burial will be at Northwood Cemetery, Cambridge.
