Samuel E. Mayenchein 71, of Cambridge, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday, June 30, 2026.

Sam was born on November 13, 1954, in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, a son of the late Harry A. and Laura (Fluty) Mayenchein.

Sam was a 1972 graduate of Chesapeake High School. He worked as a maintenance technician at Quanex where he later retired. Sam was a member of the Cambridge Moose Lodge 631 and Union Missionary Baptist Church in Chesapeake, Ohio. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, playing the guitar and drawing. He and his wife wintered in Florida for the last five years and cherished their time there.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by an infant brother, Philip Ashley Mayenchein, and two nephews, Jonathan Thacker and Brian Willis.

Sam is survived by his wife Darlene (Collart) Mayenchein, whom he married on December 6, 1975, a brother, Harry (Janet) Mayenchein of Chesapeake, three sisters, Joan (Donald) Willis of Indianapolis, IN, Phyllis (Joe) Thacker of Chesapeake, and Beverly (Mark) Bailey of Proctorsville, an aunt, Nadene Gabel of Pickerington, a sister-in-law, Lisa (Rex) Davis of Cambridge, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and good friends.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, July 6, 2026, from 11AM-1PM with the service to immediately follow at Thorn Black Funeral Home in Cambridge. Burial will be held at Guernsey County Memory Gardens.
