Shirley Eileen Barnes, 93, of Cambridge, passed away Saturday, December 24, 2022, at Cambridge Place Assisted Living.
She was born December 20, 1929, in Cambridge, daughter of the late Talmadge W. Headley and Ethel (Hare) Headley.
Mrs. Barnes was a devoted wife and mother. She loved gardening and taking care of huge flower beds.
She was a faithful member of the Christ United Methodist Church where she taught Bible study and Sunday school and mentored many Christians in the faith. She was also a member of the choir for 70 years and led the youth group of the church. She started Children's Fellowship ministry which is still active today.
She was a 1947 graduate of Cambridge High School.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ted L. Barnes, who died April 18, 2012. They were married on August 14, 1948. Also deceased is a sister, Joan Vance; and an infant brother, Harold Headley.
She is survived by a son, Wayne (& Diane) Barnes of Old Washington; a daughter, Cheryl (& Timothy) Todd of Cambridge; two sisters, Wilma Watson of Cambridge, and Marjorie Gardner of Byesville; two grandchildren, Aaron (& Bridget) Todd and Amy (& Justin) Warner; and four great-grandchildren, Evy Todd, Evan Todd, Alice Warner, Vera Warner.
There will be a celebration of life on January 21, 2023 at 1pm at the Christ United Methodist Church in Cambridge.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Christ United Methodist Church, 2167 North Avenue, Cambridge, Ohio or to Nationwide Children's Hospital, Columbus, Ohio.
