Shirley Elaine (Gregg) Harris

Shirley Elaine Harris (Gregg), aged 65, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2017, at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. The daughter of William and Vivian Gregg, Shirley was a Christmas Eve baby born into this world on December 24, 1951. Shirley was raised on a little farm near Quaker City, Ohio, in the Yoker Valley area. She graduated from Shenandoah High School and put herself through college, obtaining a degree in early childhood education from Ohio University. Thereafter, she taught in the Noble Local school system, where she shaped countless minds over the course of more than three decades. In 1970, Shirley married Steven Harris of Caldwell, Ohio. The two settled down near Senecaville, Ohio, and raised two children, Joshua and Matthew. There, Shirley enjoyed raising her children, gardening and tending to her animals. Later, Shirley helped care for her grandchildren, Abigail, Aaron and Alexander. She was a devout Christian and spent many hours reading and studying her Bible and attending church services. Shirley is survived by her husband, Steven; sons, Joshua (Mary) and Matthew (Olia); three grandchildren, Abigail, Aaron and Alexander Harris; two siblings, Dwain (Marilyn) Gregg and Nellie (Carl) McEndree; in-laws Jane Gregg, Maria (Fanchion) Harris and Theresa (Jim) Cartell; and numerous other relatives and friends. Shirley was preceded in death by one brother, Delmar Gregg, and both parents. Calling hours will be held Thursday (January 19, 2017) between the hours of 4 pm and 8 pm at Thorn-B lack Funeral Home in Quaker City, Ohio (291 Pike St.). Funeral services will be held at the same location the following day, Friday, January 20, beginning at 11 am. Burial services will follow shortly at Friends Cemetery in Quaker City, Ohio.
