Shirley Ann (Oakley) Beynon, 89, of Cambridge, passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at Altercare.
Shirley was born on March 28, 1935, in Cambridge, a daughter to the late Vernon Lester Oakley and Margaret (Kostelnik) Holub.
Shirley began her career as teacher at East Guernsey Schools in 1972 and worked there until 1997. She was a past board member at MRDD. Shirley was a member of United Methodist Women's Club and the Cambridge Glass Club. She enjoyed painting, crosswords, traveling, watching western movies and shows, and spending time with her family. Shirley was a member at Becket United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her half-sister, Diane Holub.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Carl Beynon, whom she married on July 11, 1953, a son, Vernon (Brenda) Beynon of Cambridge, two daughters, Carla (Larry) Taylor of Cambridge, and Shirleen Beynon of Cambridge, a half-sister, Joleen (Jim) Smithkey of Canton, five grandchildren, Laura, Mandy, Adam, Troy, and Josh, eight great grandchildren, her sister-in-law, Judy (Bill) Pethtel of Cambridge, and many special friends.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, May 31, 2024, from 11AM-1PM at Thorn Black Funeral Home in Cambridge with the service to immediately follow with Pastor Randy Mercer officiating. A burial will be held following the service at Guernsey Memory Gardens.
