Shirley Pontius, 74, of Cambridge, went home to be with the angels on Friday, February 10, 2023.
She was born July 3, 1948, in Cambridge, a daughter of the late Kenneth R. and Arlene (Bishard) Moore
Mrs. Pontius had worked for twenty-one years in the dietary and housekeeping departments at the old St. Francis Hospital on North 10th Street, Guernsey Memorial Hospital, and Southeastern Med.
She was a member of the Unity First Presbyterian Church of Cambridge. Shirley loved cooking, homemaking and gardening, and spending time with her grandkids.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Mark A. Pontius; and three brothers, Walter, Francis, and Clifford Moore.
She is survived by her husband, James D. Pontius, whom she married November 28, 1964; her children, Timothy (& Carrie) Pontius, Pam (& Roger) Yates, Jerry (& Julie) Pontius, and Terry (& Amy) Pontius all of Cambridge; eight sisters, Patty, Margaret, Judy, Nancy, Hazel, Brenda, Mary, and Sandra; eight brothers, Donald, Kenny, Tom, Jim, Billy, Mickey, Mike, and Randy; four grandsons, Derek, Trevor, Travis, and Troy; two granddaughters, Kylie and Emmie; two step grandchildren, Justin and Chelsea; a great-grandson, Slade Gibson; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins
Calling hours will be held Wednesday, February 15, 2023, from 11AM-1PM, at Thorn Black Funeral Home in Cambridge with the service to immediately follow with Pastor Keith Taylor officiating. Burial will be at Northwood Cemetery, Cambridge.
