Cambridge

Sonja Lee Stoneburner 87, of Cambridge died Thursday January 1, 2026 at OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus Ohio. She was born November 24, 1938 in Huntington West Virginia, daughter of the late Griffin Lawall Stoneburner and Eria K. (Pemberton) Stoneburner. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by two brothers, Gary D. Stoneburner and David Allen (& Jackie) Stoneburner. Her Sister-in law Jackie is still living. Sonja is retired from NCR then worked at Hills department store until they closed. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, joining the church on May 22, 1948 in Cleveland Ohio. Sonja was very active in the church and was called to teach the primary children for many years. She was a very devoted teacher of Jesus and her many students loved and adored her! Always running to greet her on Sunday morning with giggles and hugs. Sonja and her friends enjoyed traveling around the United States on Cam Bus Tours, and then taking to the skies to head to Hawaii, a place she had always wanted to go. She filled photo albums full of her adventures, regaled us with stories of her trips, while pointing out photos she had personally taken. She was quite the shutter bug! Always purchasing the latest cameras and many boxes of film. Each snapshot a moment in time telling us a story of what Sonja’s heart saw. It was breathtaking. She loved Elvis Presley. Her vinyl album collection is a statement to that fact. She was an eager and enthusiastic reader, devouring her books like a starving child in a candy store, mysteries being her favorite genre. She enjoyed her TV like most people enjoy a fine wine, she savored it with meticulous enjoyment. Sonja was an animal lover, forever feeding stray deer, raccoon, birds and cats. From her many pets her favorites were her white toy poodles, she cherished each one by one. Sonja was everything to all us kids, and the greatest babysitter ever, effectively balancing love and respect changing our very lives in the process. She was the kindest most loving, angelic woman, we ever knew, almost sinless, didn’t even know that was possible! We love you so much Sonja! We miss you already. Sonja is survived by two Nieces and a Nephew. Julie (& George) Dolney JR. David (& Samantha) Stoneburner. Sherry (& Kenneth) Arthurs. Two Great Nephews and a Niece, George (& Lindsay) Dolney III. Dean Granitsas and Autumn Arthurs. A Great-Great Niece and Nephew, Zelda Dolney and George Dolney IV.
