Stephen J. Atkin

**PLEASE NOTE MEMORIAL SERVICE TIME CHANGE** Stephen J. Atkin, formerly of Chesterland, Ohio and recently of Cambridge, beloved son, brother and friend, passed away the morning of October 13, 2010 after a brave struggle with pancreatic cancer. He was opening a local business and involved in a renovation on Wheeling Avenue when he was stricken with the disease. Stephen was a man of many talents and many interests. He was a carpenter by trade, and very skilled. Beyond carpentry he could handle any of the building trades from excavation to heating, wiring, and plumbing as well as beautiful finish work. The things he built endure with little need for repair, they are elegantly simple and solid, pleasing to look at and use. He had a great sense of humor, quick wit, and loved dogs. He travelled widely and had friends across the U.S. and in China which he had visited many times. Stephen was devoted to his family, and he was a supportive son and brother, always there for anything the family needed. He was a great friend, wherever he went people liked him. Stephen was born April 12, 1953 in Watertown, New York. He grew up in Parma, Ohio where he was an Eagle Scout. He is survived by his mother Jeanne E. (King) Troutman, and stepfather, Derl Troutman, his brothers and sisters, seven nieces and nephews and five grandnieces and grandnephews. No calling hours will be observed. A memorial service will be held Saturday (October 16, 2010) at 6 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge.
