Stephen E. Gierhart

Stephen E. Gierhart, 66, of Cambridge, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday (March 13, 2015). He was born September 18, 1948 in Logan, son of the late Neal F. Gierhart and Dorothy (Vollmer) Gierhart. Steve was a 1966 graduate of Logan High School and a 1970 graduate of Ohio University of Athens. Steve worked in banking for twenty-eight years and then worked for ten years in the car business. He retired from the City of Cambridge after ten years of service as Economic Development Director, where his proudest achievements included securing grants for the Challenger League field and Jefferson Park. Steve was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where he was a former Deacon. He was a member of the Cambridge Lions Club and he enjoyed doing the "interruptions" during their annual variety show. He was also a Lions Club Hall of Famer, a member of the Cambridge Masons, and a member of the Elks. Steve is survived by his wife of forty-three years, Marcia (Moorehead) Gierhart; two daughters, Carrie (& Chris) Robers of Logan and Carmen (& J.P.) Feldner of Cambridge; six grandchildren, Carly Robers, Seve Robers, C.J. Robers, Jake Feldner, Sydney Feldner, and Owen Feldner; a brother, David (& Kathleen) Gierhart of Athens; two brothers-in-law, Tim (& Nancy) Moorehead of Frisco TX and Mike (& Lisa) Moorehead of Madison AL; his mother- & father-in-law, Jack and Inola Moorehead of Madison AL; several nieces and nephews; a close group of friends who he enjoyed and laughed with often; and man's best friend and rescuer, Newman. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where funeral services will be held Wednesday (March 18, 2015) at 10 a.m. with Rev. Keith Leach and Rev. Bill Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery, Rockbridge. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made one of the following organizations: 1) The Challenger League of Cambridge; 2) Pound Partners, PO Box 1384, Cambridge OH 43725; or 3) Cambridge Lions Club, PO Box 1812, Cambridge OH 43725.
