Susan Jane (Wittekind) Stansbury

Susan Jane (Wittekind) Stansbury, 65, of Cambridge, died Tuesday (September 24, 2013) at her home. She was born March 11, 1948 in Parkersburg WV, daughter of the late Glen E. Wittekind and Betty Brown (McClure) Wittekind. Mrs. Stansbury was a US Air Force veteran, retiring after twenty-three years of service. She was a registered nurse and earned the rank of Lieutenant Colonel during her service. She commanded two air medical evacuation units, at Dobbins Air Force Base in Georgia and also at the 315th Medical Evacuation Squadron of Charleston Air Force Base in South Carolina. She earned her registered nurse diploma in 1971 from Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton. She then went on to earn her BSN from the University of South Carolina - Spartanburg in 1981 and her MSN from West Virginia University in 1993. She also worked as a substitute teacher at Cambridge City Schools and St. Benedict Catholic School from 1999 to 2009. She was a life member of the VFW. Mrs. Stansbury was a member of the Christ Our Light Parish (St. Benedict Catholic Church) of Cambridge. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Stephen Stansbury of the home, whom she married August 12, 1977; three brothers, Glen David Wittekind of Marietta, Douglas Paul (& Cindy) Wittekind of Norfolk VA, and Roger Dale (& Jane) Wittekind of Marietta; a sister, Sally Ann (& Charles) Breitstadt of Dublin; and two cousins, Ann Mulvihill and Daniel Mulvihill both of Marietta. No calling hours will be observed. A memorial mass will be held 12 Noon Saturday (September 28, 2013) at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Cambridge, with Father Robert Borer officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Guernsey County Veterans Council.
