Sylvia R. Smith, 78, of Cambridge, died Saturday (December 31, 2011) at her home. She was born April 4, 1933 in Cambridge, daughter of the late James Alfred Smith and Lucile (Logan) Smith. Miss Smith retired from RCA and NCR, where she had been an administrative secretary for many years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Cambridge. Miss Smith was a 1951 graduate of Cambridge High School. She was also a volunteer switchboard operator at Southeastern Med. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Gary; and a cousin, Todd Thatcher. She is survived by her cousins and their families, Becky (& Steve) Faes of Cambridge, William (& Marjorie) Moffitt of Cambridge, Jerry (& Margaret) Smith of Zanesville, Dr. Jerry (& Donna) Thatcher of Fremont, Mark Thatcher of Honolulu HI, Lori Vogel of Phoenix AZ, Shawn Boyd of Newark, and Amy Secrest of Chicago IL; her best friend, Dee Huntsman; and her loving companion, her cat Abbie. Family and friends may call on Wednesday (January 4, 2012) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. with Rev. Robert Millspaugh officiating. Burial will be at Guernsey Memory Gardens, Cambridge. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Sylvia's name may be made to the Guernsey County Humane Society, 108A Franklin Ave, Cambridge OH 43725.
