Sylvia K. Wheatley

Sylvia K. Wheatley, 74, of Cambridge, passed away on Thursday (Sept. 27, 2012) at The Beckett House, New Concord. She was born Oct. 27, 1937, in New Carlisle, daughter of the late Robert and Susan (Sherman) Shaneyfelt. Mrs. Wheatley was a homemaker, and worked 28 years at March Electric before retiring. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Cambridge, and a 1955 graduate of Cambridge High School. She loved to travel, bowl, and was an avid Buckeye fan. Her greatest joy was watching her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren play sports and other activities. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Evelyn Shaneyfelt; a grandson, John David Wheatley; and a great-grandson, Javion Humphrey. She is survived by her husband, John Wheatley, whom she married on Oct. 7, 1955; two sons, Tim (Deb) Wheatley, and Randy (Jan) Wheatley, both of Cambridge, seven grandchildren, Tim Jr. (Ana) Wheatley, Justin Wheatley, Mike (Amy) Wheatley, and Mark Wheatley, all of Columbus, Christopher Wheatley, Ashley Wheatley, and Courtney (Ricky) Walker, all of Cambridge, four great-grandchildren, Kaelin, Jack, Madison, and Lainee; two sisters, Carol Humphrey, Byesville, and Dolores "Dodie" (Don) McGowan, Bluffton, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be today (Monday) from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Thorn-Black Funeral Home in Cambridge, where services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday (October 2, 2012) with Pastor Mark Stinson officiating. Burial will follow in Northwood Cemetery.
