Terry A. Leggett

Terry A. Leggett, 61, of Cambridge, passed away Sunday (January 4, 2009) at the Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center, Cambridge. He was born on June 19, 1947 in Dover, son of the late Waldon Leggett and Thelma (Hibbs) Leggett. Terry was a retired teacher, guidance counselor and basketball coach. He started his career at Millersburg, continued his career at Skyvue, Zane Trace and Buckeye Trail, and finished his career at Shenandoah. Terry's commitment to education gave him the wonderful opportunity to have a positive impact on so many young lives. Upon retirement from teaching, Terry settled into real estate where he was most recently the founding partner of RE/MAX Real Estate Partners. He was currently serving as the Director of the Cambridge Board of Realtors and was a member of both the Ohio and National Association of Realtors. Terry's professional life included many highlights. He amassed 268 wins in fifteen years as a head basketball coach. His teams won 9 sectional championships, 5 district championships, 2 regional championships and his 1983 and 1987 Buckeye Trail teams were state semi-finalists. Terry was awarded District 12 Coach of the Year four times and in 1983 was named the Class A State Coach of the Year. He was inducted into the Buckeye Trail Hall of Fame. As a realtor, Terry was consistently one of the top sellers in the area, earning several realtor awards. Terry was an inspiration to all that came in contact with him. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, who cared very deeply about his family. He was passionate about the Cleveland Indians and the Ohio State Buckeyes and loved taking his family to the Smokey Mountains. He will be sadly missed by an entire community and most importantly, by his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William Leggett. He leaves his wife, Vicki (Swaldo) Leggett of the home, whom he married on January 31, 1970; two daughters, Kellie (& Steve) Hall of Grandview and Jodie (& Scott) Jones of Cambridge; two brothers, Richard (& Linda) Leggett of Strasburg and Ed (& Gayle) Leggett of New Philadelphia; seven grandchildren, Shayne Leggett, Eli Hall, Emma Hall, Isaiah Jones, Easton Jones, Jordan Jones and Kaden Jones; and his mother-in-law, Kate Swaldo of New Philadelphia. Family and friends may call on Wednesday from 12 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 9 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge. Funeral services will be held on Thursday (January 8, 2009) at 11 a.m. at the Stop 9 Church of Christ, Byesville, with visitation prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m. Evang. Woody Biggs will officiate. Burial will be at Sharon Moravian Church Cemetery, Tuscarawas.
