Thelma Lee Starr, 73, of Quaker City, passed away Thursday (October 9, 2008) at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center, Cambridge. She was born on September 29, 1935 in Calais, daughter of the late Otto Miller and Sallie (Carpenter) Miller. Mrs. Starr was a homemaker. She was a very good cook, and was especially well-known for her noodles. She was a member of Middlebourne United Methodist Church, and was very involved with her church and its choir. She was a member of United Methodist Women. Mrs. Starr loved attending the sporting events that her family participated in. She enjoyed playing Canasta with her friends. She loved gardening and tending to her flowers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Virgil Miller. She leaves her husband, Herbert Starr of the home, whom she married on May 28, 1952; two sons, Kerry (& Chris) Starr of Cambridge and Dr. Tony (& Cindi) Starr of Caldwell; two daughters, Robin (& Tim) Carpenter of Quaker City and Lisha (& Ed) Stocker of Cambridge; a sister, Grace Carpenter of Athens; ten grandchildren, Brian (& Jodi) Starr of Quaker City, Dustin Starr of Lore City, Sarah Starr of Cambridge, Amanda (& Fred) Umstott of Quaker City, Todd (& Tiffany Hlubb) Carpenter of Quaker City, Morgan Stocker of Cambridge, Hallie Stocker of Cambridge, Gage Stocker of Cambridge, Brandon Starr of Caldwell and Tyler Starr of Caldwell; a step-granddaughter, Lynsey Stocker; a great-grandson, Brysen Umstott; and several nieces, nephews & close friends. Family and friends may call on Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Quaker City, where services will be held on Monday (October 13, 2008) at 11 a.m. with Rev. Richard Cox officiating. Burial will be at Friends Cemetery, Quaker City. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to one of the following organizations: (1) Middlebourne United Methodist Church, c/o Edith Carter, 21291 Bridgewater Road, Quaker City OH 43773 or (2) Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Avenue - 7th Floor, New York NY 10001.
