Thomasina Hunter Powell, 64, of Cambridge, died Tuesday (January 11, 2011) at Harrison Community Hospital, Cadiz. She was born May 7, 1946 in Indianapolis IN, daughter of the late Thome and Mary Strong. She was the second child in the family. She enjoyed cooking so much that she furthered her education in culinary arts at the Connelly Trade School, while working at Shadyside Hospital's food service department in Pittsburgh PA. Her first marriage to Mr. Raymond Hunter blessed her with four children: Tyrone, who gave her three grandchildren, Cortney, Tyrone Jr., and Tinequia; Yvette, who was called home on May 26, 2010, left her mother with a beautiful granddaughter, Ashley, who in turn gave Thomasina her first great-grandson, Aidan; Cassandra, who gave her a granddaughter, Candice; and Raymond, who gave her three grandchildren, Chevis Tray, Shequilia, and Raymond III. She met her surviving husband, Bobby Powell and moved to Cambridge OH to start her life over again. She continued to spread her love through her cooking by preparing hot lunches at Feed My People. She was blessed again in her second marriage with two more loving daughters, Joyia, who blessed her with four grandchildren, Gabriella, Jona, Joseph, and Sabastian; and Sophia, who gave her two more bundles of joy, Violia and Delia. She also continued her education by going to Muskingum Tech, where she earned her degree in social work. She was a lover of the Lord and worshipped with the Salvation Army, where she became an active core member. She gave of herself doing another of her loves by teaching Sunday school to the children. Thomasina also left a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends, including beloved friend Carol Jean Malone. She was loved by them all and will be missed by everyone. She is in pain no longer. Family and friends will celebrate the home going of our beloved Thomasina on Monday (January 17, 2011) from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where a memorial service will follow at 7 p.m. The family will gather at the Salvation Army, Cambridge, following the memorial service.
