Velma Lucas, 98, formerly of Quaker City, died Tuesday (March 25, 2008) at the Barnesville Health Care Center. She was born on March 23, 1910 in Guernsey County, daughter of the late Robert G. Cartner and Margaret (Whalen) Cartner. She married Roy Lucas on February 12, 1930. Mrs. Lucas was a homemaker. She was a member of the Quaker City United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Roy, who died in 1991; a grandson, Robbie Carpenter; three brothers; a sister; and a son-in-law. She leaves a daughter, Wonona Carpenter of Quaker City; a sister, Martha Bishop of Cambridge; three great-grandchildren, Shannon (& Mike) Burkhart of Temperanceville, Wendie (& Scott) Reed of Quaker City and Bobbie Jean (& Bruce) Carpenter of Quaker City; five great-great-grandchildren, Tyler, Dylan, Makayla, Allison and Gage; and several nieces & nephews. No calling hours will be observed. Private graveside services will be held at a later date. Burial will be at Friends Cemetery, Quaker City. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the Quaker City United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 409, Quaker City OH 43773.
