Vernon L. Yontz

February 17, 1951 — December 24, 2021

Vernon L. Yontz, 70, of Cambridge, died Friday (December 24, 2021) at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center, Cambridge.

He was born February 17, 1951 in Cambridge, son of the late Kenneth Lee Yontz and Dolores (Freda) Yontz.

A 1969 graduate of Meadowbrook High School, Mr. Yontz had worked for Penske of Zanesville, moving parts and trucks for the company.  He was also a truck driving instructor for Mid-East Ohio Career Center and the owner of Chips Away Company for nineteen years.

He especially enjoyed his time at the lake.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce L. (Caskey) Yontz.

He is survived by a son, Vernon L. Yontz II of Caldwell; a daughter, Hope Hall of Cambridge; a sister, Kathy Hill of Newark; six grandchildren, Vernon L. Yontz III, Anthony Michael Yontz, Torrie Yontz, Madyson Yontz, Jordan Hall, and Jada Hall; his special niece and nephew, Jamie Rice and Tyler Hill; his loving companion, Barbara Colvin; and his dog, Riley.

Visitation will be held Wednesday (December 29, 2021) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. Friends and family are welcome, but due to COVID-19 please take all necessary precautions to ensure your safety and everyone else's should you decide to attend.

Burial will be at Guernsey Memory Gardens, Cambridge.

As an expression of sympathy, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Guernsey County Animal Shelter.
