Verta Lanning

Verta Lanning, 81, of Cambridge, died Monday (June 20, 2011) at The Ohio State University Medical Center, Columbus. She was born May 15, 1930 in Keokee VA, daughter of the late Ezra Pennington and Eliza (Holmes) Pennington. Mrs. Lanning worked as a cook for the former Berwick Hotel for many years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Robert Lanning; a son, Harold James Lanning; five brothers; and four sisters. She is survived by two sons, Dennis Lanning of Cambridge and John (& Dianna) Lanning of Cambridge; two daughters, Lisa Lanning of Cambridge and Sandra Johnson of Cambridge; two brothers, Bob (& Verla) Pennington of Keokee VA and Rex (& Kay) Pennington of Cambridge; and two sisters, Lois (& Don) Walters of Cambridge and Brenda Pennington of Cambridge. Family and friends may call on Friday (June 24, 2011) from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where funeral services will follow at 8 p.m. with Pastor Donald Glass officiating.
