Virgil L. Oliver Sr., 76, passed away on Monday, November 27, 2023, at Countryview Assisted Living.
Virgil was born on January 1, 1947, in Cambridge, a son to the late Harold Raymond and Wilma E. (Anderson) Oliver.
Virgil enjoyed being outdoors, riding four wheelers, loved a good conversation, and enjoyed spending time with family. He worked as a heavy equipment operator in the coal mines. Virgil was a United States Army Veteran.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Janice "Marilyn" Gregg.
Virgil his survived by his son, Virgil Lee (Linda) Oliver of Cambridge, his sisters, Martha Allison of Columbus, and Helen (Gary) Shugart of Cambridge, four grandchildren, Tim Murray of Columbus, Teri Oliver of Pittsburgh, Brandon Murray of Columbus, and Tyler Oliver of Columbus, and three great grandchildren, Vada, Aubrey, and Luke, and many nieces, nephews, and good friends.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, December 4, 2023, from 11AM to 1PM with the service to immediately follow at Thorn Black Funeral Home in Cambridge with Pastor Clayton Coffee officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the Guernsey County Veterans Council. A graveside service will be held on Friday, January 26, 2024, at Northwood Cemetery at 2PM.
