Virgil R. Watson, 91, of Dover, died Wednesday (April 15, 2009) at the New Dawn Nursing Home, Dover. He was born on January 7, 1918 in Millwood Township/Guernsey County, son of the late Chester K. Watson and Freeda (Bate) Watson. Mr. Watson was a farmer and a trucker. He enjoyed having Black Angus cattle, goats, alpacas on his farm. He also cherished his llama named Detroit and his dog, Blackie, who followed him everywhere on his farm. Mr. Watson also enjoyed collecting the older Allis-Chalmers tractors. Mr. Watson was Protestant by faith. He was a 1936 graduate of Quaker City High School. He was a member of the Farm Bureau. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Vivian W. Lusch; a brother, Victor Gene Watson; and two brothers-in-law, David Guthrie and William Polinko. He is survived by his wife, Virginia (Law) Watson of the home, whom he married on May 30, 1939; a son, Ronald J. (& Martha) Watson of Naples FL; a daughter, Dolores "Dee" (& Joe) Barile of New Philadelphia; a son-in-law, Donald A. Lusch of Marshall MI; two sisters, Bonnie Polinko and Ernestine Guthrie; his grandchildren, Rhonda (Watson) Notary, Mark Watson, Rochelle (Lusch) Gabel, Kirk Lusch, Krista Miller, Kendra (Barile) Kovach and Robyn (Barile) Mullen; his great-grandchildren, Skye Notary, Willow Notary, Jacob Gabel, Mitchell Gabel, Leigh Gabel, Adam Lusch, Kyle Lusch, Brandon Lusch, Olivia Mullen, Cooper Mullen, Paige Mullen, Quinn Mullen and Ella Kate Kovach; and several nieces & nephews. Family and friends may call on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Quaker City, where services will be held on Saturday (April 18, 2009) at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jeff Eschbaugh officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Quaker City. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to (1) Quaker City United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 409, Quaker City OH 43773; or (2) Mt. Zion Church, 57196 Mt. Zion Hill Road, Quaker City OH 43773.
