Virginia Carpenter

Virginia Carpenter, 86, of Quaker City, died Friday (April 15, 2016) at Emerald Pointe Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Barnesville. She was born January 19, 1930 in Salesville, daughter of the late John R. Roe and Mary Iona (Stillions) Roe. Mrs. Carpenter retired from the Guernsey County Home, where she had worked as an aide for many years. She was a member of the Central Christian Church of Quaker City. She loved baking and was well known for her red velvet cakes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Carpenter, who died January 10, 2011; three brothers; and five sisters. She is survived by a son, Gregory (& Janet) Carpenter of Galloway; four daughters, Monica (& Dennis) Shannon of Cambridge, Holly Smith of Old Washington, Angela (& Rusty) Hannahs of Salesville, and Amy Carpenter (& Jeff Powell) of Barnesville; four brothers, Raymond Roe of Cambridge, Wilford Roe of California, Bob Roe of California, and James "Jim" Roe of Spokane KS; a sister, Ruth Foraker of Florida; ten grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. No calling hours will be observed. Graveside services and burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday (April 20, 2016) at Friends Cemetery, Quaker City, with Dennis Shannon officiating. As an expression of sympathy, the family asks that memorial contribution in Virginia's name be made to the Central Christian Church, PO Box 460, Quaker City OH 43773.
