Vivian Elaine Gregg Carpenter

Vivian Elaine Gregg Carpenter, 90, died Tuesday (February 23, 2010) at her home with her family beside her. She was born March 6, 1919, daughter of the late Joseph Williams and Laura (Oliver) Williams. Mrs. Carpenter was a cook at various restaurants and also worked at the Guernsey County Home. She was a former clerk of Wayne Township. Mrs. Carpenter was a member of the Kennonsburg Bible Church. She was also a board member, Sunday school teacher and church caretaker for the St. John's Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, William Gregg, whom she married November 23, 1937; her second husband, Glenard "Turk" Carpenter; and two brothers, Richard Williams and Wayne Williams. She is survived by four children, Dwain (& Marilyn) Gregg, Delmar (& Jane) Gregg, Nellie (& Carl) McEndree and Shirley (& Steve) Harris all of Quaker City; a sister, Zona Virginia Elikan of Salesville; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Family and friends may call on Saturday (February 27, 2010) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Quaker City, where funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. with Pastor Roger Pittman officiating. Burial will be at Friends Cemetery, Quaker City. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Carpenter's name to Hospice of Guernsey Inc., PO Box 1165, Cambridge OH 43725.
