Walter M. Hughes Sr.

Walter M. Hughes Sr., 71, of Lore City, died Tuesday (December 28, 2021) at Astoria Place of Cambridge.

He was born September 24, 1950 in Corning, son of the late Cavender Edwards and Opal M. (Preston) Edwards.

A 1969 graduate of Miller High School, Mr. Hughes had worked as a welder at Ohio Bridge Company for twenty years.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rendville.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards – especially poker, and watching Westerns.  He was a fan of the Las Vegas Raiders.  He loved spending time with his friends and family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Elroy Hughes and Richard Hughes.

He is survived by his wife, Geraldine (Jackson) Hughes, whom he married May 24, 1973; a son, Walter (Lisa) Hughes Jr. of Cambridge; a daughter, Deanna (James) Young of Lore City; four grandchildren, Jon-Eric Nicholson of Byesville, Kayla Curtis of Cambridge, Mariah Newman of Cambridge, and Kali Whitney of Cambridge; four great-grandchildren, Myla, Amara, Myra, and Ryan; and many nieces, nephews, and very good friends.

Visitation will be held Tuesday (January 4, 2022) from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where funeral services will follow at 4 p.m. with Pastor Bob Hollins officiating. Friends and family are welcome, but due to COVID-19 please take all necessary precautions to ensure your safety and everyone else's should you decide to attend.
