Walter William Myers, 90, of New Concord, formerly of Cambridge, passed away Wednesday (June 16, 2010) at the Beckett House. He was born June 12, 1920 in Cambridge, and was the son of the late George Myers and Margaret E. (Stevens) Myers Klinekencht. Mr. Myers was a 1940 graduate of Brown High School, a member of First United Methodist Church in Cambridge, Mason Lodge #632 F&AM, American Legion, V.F.W., Eagles Aerie #386 and the Elks Lodge. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, his many friends and after retirement he enjoyed taking the RV to Florida with Freda. He worked as a mechanic and later worked at Diebold Manufacturing in Canton, he owned and operated the first Skating Rink in Cambridge and was involved in the oil field business. He was also in the monument business for fifty years - Guernsey Memorial Monuments. He proudly served his country during WWII having served in the Army from 1941-1943. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of more than 50 years, Freda Ruby whom he married March 23, 1941 and passed away in 1998 stepfather, Ernest Klinekencht; and a sister, Pauline. He is survived by two sons and their families, Bill (Sandy) Myers and Chuck (Val) Myers all of New Concord; seven grandchildren, and several great grandchildren; A sister, Phyllis Reeder of Columbus many nieces and nephews; a very special friend and caregiver, Mary Antill. Calling hours will be Saturday from 1-3 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge where services will follow at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Ellen Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Northwood Cemetery with military services conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council.
