Wayne R. Stock died Saturday, October 1, 2022, at the Morrison House in Zanesville following a short illness.
He was born February 2, 1935, in Cambridge, a son of the late Harry Stock and Hilda (Linehan) Stock. He was a 1953 graduate of Cambridge High School. He served in the U.S. Army for two years, stationed at Fort Knox. Wayne retired from GTE. He was a member of St. Johns Episcopal Church, serving as an Acolyte for many years and a Jr. Warden. He was an avid fan of Ohio State sports as well as the Cincinnati Bengals and Reds.
Wayne loved mowing and trimming grass at his home, the neighbors, and his church. He mowed the grass at the dike in east Cambridge from the time it was built until a few years before his death.
He played football and baseball in his teens and was a pretty good pitcher. He even earned a contract with the Cincinnati Reds. He loved hearing about his great nieces and great nephew's sports at their schools.
Wayne leaves a brother, Martin Stock, and a sister, Bonnie Landman, a beloved nephew Joe (Barb) Whitcraft of Columbus, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his sister, Hope Whitcraft-Sarchet, a special nephew, Bob Whitcraft, sister-in-law Helen Stock, and brother-in-law, Jack Landman.
There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, October 5, 2022, at 11 AM at Guernsey Memory Gardens with Rev. Rob Morris officiating. Military honors will be held by the Guernsey County Veterans Council. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Johns Episcopal Church.
