Wesley Wallace Dawson

Wesley Wallace Dawson, 94, of Anderson SC and formerly of Kimbolton, died Sunday (December 6, 2020) at his home surrounded by family.

He was born October 16, 1926 in Zanesville, son of the late Floyd Dawson and Leathel (Post) Dawson.

Wesley graduated from Hobart Welding School in Troy, OH and spent several years as a welding foreman at Process Equipment in Tipp City, OH. He loved adventure.  He owned Cove Court Motel, Dawson Marina and Dawson Marine Construction specializing in seawall and docks in Charlotte Harbor, Florida.  He was an excellent finish carpenter. He worked for various contractors in Florida and spent several years working at Salt Fork Resorts.  He also farmed beef cattle and had a farrow to finish hog operation.

He loved to travel. He loved fishing at Turkey Lake in Ontario, Canada, and traveled the Alaska Highway several times.  He was a private pilot, scuba diver, fisherman, and beekeeper.  He was also an Explorer Scout Leader.

Wesley loved and served in several capacities at Irish Ridge United Methodist Church.

Wesley was a US Army veteran, having served from 1944 to 1945.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Jean (Pettay) Dawson, who died March 14, 2016.  They were married March 3, 1949.  Also deceased is a daughter, Beth (Dawson) Rose; a daughter-in-law, Angela Dawson and a son-in-law, Dean McGillivray.

He is survived by two sons, Jeffrey (Susan) Dawson (Florida) and James (Michele) Dawson (South Carolina), and two daughters, Cheryl Newsome (Alaska) and Linda McGillivray (Ohio); ten grandchildren, Paul, Melissa, Marissa, Michael, Carey, Cheree, Jason, Jackie, Mitchell, and Jessica; seventeen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson.

Due to Covid precautions, a short graveside service with military honors will be at Irish Ridge Cemetery at 11am on Tuesday, December 15th, officiated by Pastor Phil Murphy.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Agape Care of SC, 110 Dillon Drive, Spartanburg SC 29307 or to Irish Ridge United Methodist Church in his memory.
