William Bodner, 94, of Cambridge, died Wednesday (April 14, 2021) at his home.
He was born August 30, 1926 in Pleasant City, son of the late Stephen Bodner and Anna (Harchuk) Bodner.
Mr. Bodner retired from Cambridge City Schools, where he had been a teacher for many years. He had earned his Bachelor's Degree of Education from Ohio University. Mr. Bodner served as a basketball coach in Sandusky County, Seneca County, and Guernsey County.
He was a volunteer fireman with the Cambridge City Fire Department. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, hunting, and helping his neighbors whenever he could.
He was a member of the Christ Our Light Parish of Cambridge.
Mr. Bodner was a US Army veteran, having served during WWII.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie (Pachuta) Bodner, who died February 24, 2016. They were married September 2, 1950. Also deceased are two sons, Mark William Bodner and Paul Edward Bodner; two sisters, Ella Duch and Edith LePage; and a brother, Carl George Bodner.
He is survived by three sons, Daniel Bodner of Cambridge, Stephen (Shawna) Bodner of New Concord, and David (Joy) Bodner of Salesville; four daughters, Carol (Andy) Yakubik of Cambridge, Janet (Chester) Adkins of Lawrenceville GA, Margie (Jim) Reed of Cambridge, and Anna (Greg) Knight of Norton; twelve grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a step-great-grandchild.
Visitation will be held Monday (April 19, 2021) from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge. Vigil services will begin at 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Family and friends are welcome, but due to COVID-19, FACE COVERINGS ARE REQUIRED. Please take all precautions to ensure your own safety and everyone else's should you decide to attend.
Additional visitation will be held Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Cambridge.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday (April 20, 2021) at 11 a.m. at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Cambridge, with Father Robert Borer and Father Paul Hrezo officiating.
Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Cambridge, with military graveside services conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council.
