William C. "Buster" Carpenter, 84, of Quaker City, passed away Friday (January 25, 2008) at the Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center, Cambridge. He was born on January 13, 1924 in Miltonsburg, son of the late Carlton Carpenter and Cora (Johnson) Carpenter. Mr. Carpenter retired from the B&O Railroad Company, where he had been a bridge maintenance worker. He was a Protestant by faith. Mr. Carpenter was a member of the American Legion of Delaware OH. He loved vegetable gardening. Mr. Carpenter was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during World War II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Charles; and three sisters, Marie Carpenter, Jessie Johnson and Ruth Winters. He leaves his wife of sixty years, Kathryn Carpenter, whom he married on June 11, 1947; two daughters, Carla "Cookie" (Ron) Jackson of Barnesville and Karen Elaine (Larry) Potter of Quaker City; a sister, Patsy (D.K.) Carpenter of Summerfield; seven grandchildren; and twenty great-grandchildren. Family and friends may call on Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Quaker City, where services will be held on Tuesday (January 29, 2008) at 2 p.m. with Rev. Wilbur Bragg officiating. Burial will be at Friends Cemetery, Quaker City, with military graveside services conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council.
