William Eugene "Bill" Minter, 65, of Cambridge, passed away Saturday (July 13, 2013) at James Cancer Center - The Ohio State University Wexner Center, Columbus, following a twenty-three month battle with leukemia. He was born July 7, 1948 in Gnadenhutten, son of the late Arthur Minter and Winoma (Clifton) Minter. Mr. Minter retired from the Cambridge Fire Department, where he had served from 1976 until his retirement in 2010. He held the position of fire chief from 1997 to 2010. He was the most decorated public servant in Cambridge's history. He was a member of the Ohio Fire Chiefs Association. He earned his Associates of Applied Science - Fire Science Tech degree from Belmont Tech. He was a member of the VFW Post 2901, Eagles Aerie 386, Moose Lodge, and the NRA. He enjoyed motorcycles, going on cruises, and all outdoor activities. He cherished spending time with his family. Mr. Minter was a US Air Force veteran. He was a member of the Unity Presbyterian Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Jessie; and his beloved cocker spaniel, Milie. He is survived by his wife, Linda A. Minter, whom he married May 11, 2001; a son, Kurt (& Cassi) Ragsdale of Cambridge; four daughters, Jacqueline Nino, Michele (& Ed) Riddle of North Carolina, Dawn (& Rusty) Baker of Buffalo, and Donna Williams of Nashport; a sister, Jackie Schupp of New Philadelphia; seventeen grandchildren; his mother-in-law, Carol Schendel of Medina; a sister-in-law, Diane Fehlner of Olmstead Falls; and several nieces & nephews. Family and friends may call on Thursday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, and also on Friday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. Friday (July 19, 2013) at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge. Burial will be at Northwood Cemetery, Cambridge, with military graveside honors conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council. As an expression of sympathy, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Firefighter Local #910, 902 Gaston Avenue, Cambridge OH 43725, for fire prevention and safety.
