William A. "Buzz" Ferguson Jr., 80, of Cambridge, went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 6, 2023.
He was born August 23, 1942, in Cambridge, son of the late William A. Ferguson Sr. and Margaret (Turnbaugh) Ferguson.
He was a 1960 graduate of Cambridge High School and a US Army veteran.
Buzz retired from Ohio Bridge. He had been employed at several other places including the State of Ohio Weigh Station.
Buzz was a dedicated member of the First Presbyterian Church. He was a Deacon and visited with home bound folks on a regular basis. He helped with Backpack 5000, packing food for school aged children since it started in 2012. Buzz was always first to Men's Bible Study and church on Sunday to prepare coffee and greet all with his loud and enthusiastic voice.
Buzz was a member of the Kambri Shrine serving in multiple ways. He volunteered at SEORMC for 32 years.
Buzz loved to play all kinds of cards, especially "hand & foot". He was a member of the Elks Lodge and would regularly meet there with his buddies at 11:00AM for their Rummy game.
Buzz was a sports memorabilia collector.
Every other week, he would take his special friend, Scott Gadd, out for a ride and a burger. He said he always learned from Scott.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jan Ferguson, his in-laws, Wayne and Ruth Trimmer and Gladys and Eudie Joseph, and a niece Nikki Moore.
He is survived by his wife, Dama (Trimmer) Ferguson, whom he married October 21, 1977, and a son, William Jan (Tiffany) Ferguson of Windsor, CO. Also left to cherish his memory are his nieces, Aimee (Gene) Maher, Stephanie (Sean) Wilson, Joey Mobley, Lori Dunning, and Lezley Cottrell, and several great nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday, January 11, 2023, from 5-8:30 PM at Thorn Black Funeral Home with Cambridge Masonic Lodge #245 Services at 7PM and services by the Cambridge Elks Lodge #448 at 8 PM. Additional calling hours will be held Thursday, January 12, 2023, from 10AM-11AM, at Cambridge First Presbyterian Church, with services to immediately follow with Pastor Jeff Bergeson and Pastor Randolph White officiating.
Burial will be at Northwood Cemetery, Cambridge, with military graveside services conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in William's name to the First Presbyterian Church, Backpack 5000, 725 Steubenville Ave., Cambridge, OH, 43725 and Hospice of Guernsey, P.O. Box 1165, Cambridge, OH. 43725
