William K. Johnson, 84, of Cambridge, passed away Thursday (December 7, 2017) at Genesis Hospital, Zanesville. He was born September 8, 1933 in Weirton WV, son of the late John T. and Amanda (Riggs) Johnson. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and a serious Buckeye fan. He was kind and loved his children and grandchildren very much. Mr. Johnson served four years in the U.S. Navy and served two world tours during the Korean War. He retired after thirty years at the Cambridge State Hospital. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters. He is survived by his loving wife of sixty years, Virginia (McGilton) Johnson, whom he married on September 14, 1957; four children, Dr. Anita (David) Wantz of Wilmington OH, Bryan (Lynn) Johnson of Mims FL, Cindy (Lee) Rhodes of Cambridge, and Diane (Jim) Schupbach of Cambridge; a sister, Verna Sue (Raymond) Wagstaff of Cambridge; nine grandchildren, Stephanie (Adam) Conn, Bryan (Sherry) Valentine, Nicholas Wantz, Bill Valentine, Mallory (Kyle) Polk, Zachary Wantz, Seth Rhodes, Samantha Wantz, and Olivia Rhodes; three step-grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and his best friend, Andy Keith. Visitation will be held Tuesday (December 12, 2017) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. with Pastor Mark Slay officiating. Burial will be at Northwood Cemetery, Cambridge, with military graveside honors conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to The Salvation Army.
