William Robert Lashley

William Robert "Bill" Lashley, 90, of Quaker City, passed away Monday (April 12, 2010) at The Ohio State University Medical Center, Columbus. He was born December 6, 1919 in Kennonsburg, son of the late Leonard Lashley and Freda (Hague) Lashley. Mr. Lashley was the founder of Lashley Tractor Sales Inc. He was a life member of the Batesville and Caldwell VFW and also a member of the Batesville American Legion. He was a member of the Quaker City Masonic Lodge # 500 F&AM, Aladdin Temple Shrine of Columbus and Scottish Rite of Cambridge. He was also a member of the Kennonsburg Grange. Mr. Lashley was a 1937 graduate of Batesville High School and later served as a Noble County school board member for several years. He was a bowler, square dancer and an avid NASCAR fan. Above all else, he was a family man and loved people. He and his wife loved to travel and had been on several overseas trips. They also had visited all fifty states in their travels throughout the years. Mr. Lashley was a US Army veteran, having served during WWII in the South Pacific Theater. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Winifred Rich, Mildred Meighen and Wilma Sell; and a brother, Donald Lashley. He is survived by his wife of sixty-eight years, Esther (Thompson) Lashley. They were married on October 11, 1941. Also surviving are two sons, Gary (& Gloria) Lashley of Stone Mountain GA and Dennis (& Linda) Lashley of Senecaville; a daughter Lu Ann (& Kevin) Stimpert of Minford; a brother, Junior Lashley of Sarahsville; two sisters, Mary Alice (& George) Rumble of Canton and Bernadine (& Harold) Flood of Quaker City; six grandchildren, Jeff (& Jeanna) Lashley, Ken (& Aimee) Lashley, Chris Lashley, Jessica Lashley, Zachary Stimpert and Colin Stimpert; seven great-grandchildren, Ben, Julie, Iris, Seth, Sarah, Sam and Sean Lashley; and many nieces & nephews. Family and friends may call on Thursday from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Quaker City, where Masonic services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday (April 16, 2010) at the Kennonsburg Methodist Church, Kennonsburg, with Pastor Mark Slay officiating. Burial will be at Friends Cemetery, Quaker City, with military graveside services conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Lashley's name to the Kennonsburg Methodist Church, 57599 Kennonsburg Road, Quaker City OH 43773.
