William N. "Bill" Carpenter, 77, of Zanesville and formerly of Quaker City, died Monday (January 10, 2011) at the Genesis-Good Samaritan Medical Center, Zanesville. He was born November 10, 1933 in Quaker City, son of the late Ernest H. Carpenter and Emma Lucille (Knight) Carpenter. Mr. Carpenter worked for eight years with Bannock Coal Company, twenty years with Broughton Dairy, and ten years with B&O Railroad. He enjoyed fishing and golfing. He was a 1951 graduate of Quaker City High School. Mr. Carpenter was a member of the Central Christian Church of Quaker City. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Don and Larry. He is survived by a son, Gregory (& Janet) Carpenter of Galloway; four daughters, Monica (& Denny) Shannon of Cambridge, Holly Smith of Old Washington, Angela (& Rusty) Hannahs of Salesville, and Amy Carpenter (& Jeff Powell) of Barnesville; three brothers, Gary (& Myrle) Carpenter of Cambridge, Kenneth (& Connie) Carpenter of Cambridge, and Ronald (& Linda) Carpenter of Quaker City; a sister, Nancy (& Bill) Perkins of Navarre; ten grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; his former wife & mother of his children, Virginia Carpenter of Quaker City; an aunt, Ethel Morgan of Cambridge; and several nieces & nephews. Family and friends may call on Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Quaker City, where funeral services will be held Friday (January 14, 2011) at 11 a.m. with Pastor Dennis Shannon officiating. Burial will be at Friends Cemetery, Quaker City. As an expression of sympathy, contributions may be made in William's name to one of the following organizations: 1) Kidney Care of Zanesville, 3239 Maple Avenue, Zanesville OH 43701; or 2) Central Christian Church of Quaker City.
