William Thomas Nicholson

March 23, 1942 — June 28, 2022

Cambridge

William Thomas Nicholson, 80, of Cambridge, took the hand of his Lord and savior on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at Riverside Hospital in Columbus, where he had been surrounded by precious loved ones.

He was born March 23, 1942, in Cambridge, Ohio, the eldest son of the late Dr. William H. and Carabel (Seaman) Nicholson. He thought it was pretty "cool" that he was born in Swan hospital and that he lived his last couple years in an apartment that was probably just a few feet from where he was born.

Bill (as every friend and stranger knew him) was a graduate of Cambridge High School, where he was a proud member of the Class of 1960. He furthered his education, earning a BS from The Ohio State University (His OU Bobcat daughters only gave a small cough at writing "The"). He continued with the awarding of his Juris Doctorate from Ohio Northern University. He became a long-time attorney with Criminal Defense being his favorite to practice. He was an extremely proud member of the Ohio State Bar Association, the Guernsey County Bar Association, The Cambridge City Council, and was a Magistrate for the Guernsey County Juvenile Court.  Bill was a member of the Called to Freedom Fellowship in Cambridge where he regularly practiced his strong faith. He has served as a charter member of the former Big Brothers of Guernsey County, a founding Board member of the Haven of Hope and an Administrative Board Member of First United Methodist Church. Along the way, he was also a member of the Cambridge Country Club, the Moose, the Elks Club (otherwise known to his kids as 432-2100). He was a longtime member of the SE Ohio Valley Baseball Association. He gave 30 years as a football referee for the Ohio High School Athletic Association, which included several state play-off games and over 25 years as the basketball scorekeeper for his beloved Bobcats, including state play-off games in the "Big House". He dearly missed both of these in his later years. But his proudest sports moment was winning the Cambridge Country Club Member Guest where he carried his hack golfer son for the entire tournament.

Bill was proud to receive the 1999 OVAC Thomas E. Rataiczak Scorekeeper Award presented annually at the OVAC Samual A. Mumley Basketball All-Star game. He was also incredibly proud, honored and humbled to receive the Attorney Advocate of the Year award, which was presented to him in 2011 by Court Appointed Special Advocates OHIO CASA – A Child's Voice in Court, a service for which he strongly believed and gave his heart to.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved Auntie, Avis Virginia Nicholson, and his favorite four-legged fur child, Winston. He is also preceded by his brother, David Nicholson, after years of relentless older brother teasing and loving friendship.

He is survived by his wife, Pamela (Rochester) Nicholson, whom he married on August 17, 1968. Also left to cherish his memory is his favorite son; William (Barbe) Nicholson of West Chester, Ohio, his favorite oldest daughter; Lisa (Chris) Blass of Pittsburgh, PA, and his favorite youngest daughter; Cara Burkart of Cambridge, his two brothers; John Mark (Priscilla) Nicholson of Cambridge, and Jim (Tammie) Nicholson of Martinsburg, WV, his sister; Carol (John) Gaynor of Martinsburg, WV. He will also be forever missed by his six grandchildren; Meghan "Stinky Pot", Christopher "Rocky", and Noah "Pardner" Blass, Ally Jean "Kajenikis Johnson" and H William "HW" Nicholson, and Peyton Jenae "Stinky" Burkhart, his many beloved nieces, nephews, and good friends. William also leaves behind his special daughter, Silvia (Andres) Alacrón, and her family, Andrea Aguirre Alacrón, Marthin Aguirre Alacrón, and Martin Aguirre Alacrón and his special chosen daughters, Kim Wilson and Veronica Welker.

Visitation will be Wednesday, July 6, 2022, from 5-8 PM at Thorn Black Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Thursday, July 7, 2022, at 11 AM at Thorn Black Funeral Home. Pastor Bob Hollins and Reverand Charles Stecker will be officiating.
