William C. Orme II, formerly of Cambridge, died Tuesday (February 21, 2017) in Peterborough NH where he had resided for many years. He was born April 8, 1926, the youngest child of the late Wilbert L. and Marjorie Bennett Orme. He attended Cambridge schools, but graduated from Mercersburg Academy in 1944. In the fall of 1944, he enlisted in the US Navy, along with his twin brother, Wib. Upon his discharge from the Navy, he attended The Ohio State University. He graduated in 1951 with a degree in Ceramic Engineering. He went to work for his father at the Cambridge Glass Company. When the glass company closed in 1954, he went to work for Imperial Glass. In 1957, he began working for General Electric in the Lamp/Light Bulb division in Lexington KY. He retired from GE in 1988 and moved to Peterborough NH, where he married Gretchen Mann. He is survived by his wife, Gretchen, and his three daughters, Pamela Orme (John) Wasylik of Niantic CT, Melinda Orme of Pittsburgh PA, and Jennifer Orme (David) Zavaleta of Durham NC. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Amanda Wasylik (Mike) Geer, John William (Jess) Wasylik, Matthew (Bridgett) Pugh, Rebecca Pugh, Sarah and Leah Zavaleta, and one great-grandson, Hillyer Clark Wasylik. Graveside services and interment will be held Saturday (May 27, 2017) at 11:30 a.m. at Northwood Cemetery, Cambridge. Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, is assisting the family with arrangements. As an expression of sympathy, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the National Museum of Cambridge Glass, 136 S 9 th St, Cambridge OH 43725.
