Berna J. Hammel, 90, of Cambridge, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 12, 2023, at SEORMC.
Berna was born on June 6, 1933, in Sistersville, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Alford and Beulah (Martin) McKelvey.
Berna was a 1951 graduate of Sistersville High School. She worked as a Bus Driver and retired from GNC Workshop. She was a member of the Cambridge Moose Lodge, Cambridge VFW Auxiliary, and the Cambridge Eagles. Berna had a love for watching sports and was a fan of a variety of teams including the OSU Buckeyes, the Pittsburgh Steelers, WVU, and liked watching Nascar, especially Jeff Gordon. She enjoyed fishing and camping at Seneca Lake, playing euchre and other card games, and spending time with her family, especially her grandkids. She was Christian by Faith.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Page Hammel.
Berna is survived by two sons, Page (Mary Beth) Hammel of Senecaville, and Tracy Hammel of Cambridge, one daughter, Deborah (James) Upton of Eaton, four grandchildren, Michael (Emily) Upton of Casstown, Cody Upton of Lewisburg, Emily (Richard) Sowell of Morgantown, WV, and Ashley Hammel of New Martinsville, WV, and nine great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, November 16, 2023, at 1 PM, at Guernsey County Memory Gardens with Evan. Mark Beros officiating.
