Bessie Florence Barrett

Bessie Florence (McCune) Barrett, 79, of New Concord, died Friday (November 8, 2019) at the Beckett House, New Concord.

She was born June 8, 1940 in Cambridge, daughter of the late Albert R. McCune and Laura (Thompson) McCune.

She married Rev. Fred Barrett on July 15, 1962. Fred passed on May 22, 2014.

She was a member of Grace Baptist Church, Cambridge. She became a Christian in April 1969, having put her trust in the finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ, having her sins washed away in the shed blood of Jesus.

She loved day camp and the camp kids. She worked at Faith Independent Baptist Bible Camp for thirty years.

In the early 60's, Bessie worked as a car hop at the Meeca Restaurant in Cambridge. She then became a mother and housewife. She enjoyed doing crafts.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Lee, Jim, Raymond, Jack, and Charlie; and four sisters, June, Mae, Linda, and Mary Belle.

She is survived by three sons, Terry (Debbie) Barrett of Cambridge, Troy Barrett of Cambridge, and Todd (Shawnette Poston) Barrett of Clarksburg WV; four granddaughters, Vanessa (Tom), Tiffany (Matt), Shannon (Bret), and Chelbi; two grandsons, Austin and Tyson; three great-granddaughters, Ariella, Evealyn, and Hailee; three great-grandsons, Noah, Kolton, and Gabe; a daughter-in-law, Christine Barrett of Cambridge; and a special neighbor, Anne.

Visitation will be held Monday (November 11, 2019) from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where funeral services will be held Tuesday (November 12, 2019) at 11 a.m. with Rev. Gary Forney, Pastor Wib Bragg, and Pastor Bob Hollins officiating.

Burial will be at Guernsey Memory Gardens, Cambridge.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Guernsey Inc., PO Box 1165, Cambridge OH 43725.
