Edward Ellis Gibson, 95 of Cambridge passed away Wednesday, November 30, 2022, at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center.
He was born February 12, 1927, in Jefferson Township, Guernsey County, son of the late Merald and Bertha (Wilson) Gibson.
Mr. Gibson was a farmer, a carpenter, a caretaker for many of his family members, an aide at the former Cambridge State Hospital retiring after 30 years in 1982 and 11 years at Thorn Funeral Home retiring in 1993.
Almost any day of the week you could find him out mowing his and at times his neighbors' lawns and did so up until he was hospitalized this past July, he enjoyed round and square dancing with his wife and many friends over the years and eating out every day at many of the local restaurants.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Opal Gibson who passed away June 3, 2022, his brother, Mansel Gibson and four sisters, Hazel Allender, Nelva (Ralph) Gunn, Freda (Virgil) Grindstaff and an infant sister Pauline.
He is survived by his children, Marilyn (Don) Rogers of Senecaville, Ed (Pam) Gibson of Winterset and Karen (Jeff) Riggans of Byesville. 7 grandchildren: Diane (Steve) Presdee, Melanie (Eddie) Wilson, Doug (Jennifer) Gibson, Angela (Ryan) Bosserman, Keith (Stephanie) Rogers, Brandon Riggans and Josh (Leandra) Riggans, 12 great grandchildren: Blake and Layne Presdee, Shanah Dagen, Caleb Wilson, Madilynn, Natalie, Harper and Elizabeth Rogers, Cole Bosserman, Owen, Addy and Emmy Riggans, and four great-great grandchildren: Leighanna Dagen, Baylor and Kinsley Roberts and Kasen West and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours for friends and family will be Saturday, December 3, 2022, from 11AM-1PM at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge. Funeral services will be at 1 PM at Thorn Black Funeral Home with Woody Biggs officiating. Burial will follow at Center Cemetery.
