Harold Gunn Obituary

Harold C. Gunn, 92, of Coshocton and formerly of Cambridge, entered the arms of his Lord and savior while kneeling in prayer at his bedside in Lafayette Pointe.  He had fought a courageous battle with COVID and won, but the Lord called him home as his journey on earth had ended.

He was born May 9, 1928 to Charles and Cloma Beal Gunn in Jefferson Township/Guernsey County.  He married his high school sweetheart, Dorothy (Lyons) in 1947.  They celebrated seventy years of marriage prior to her death in 2017.  He liked to brag that he ran away with the preacher’s daughter.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Ralph, Floyd, Ronald, and Willard; his sister, Forest; sisters-in-law; brothers-in-laws, nieces, nephews, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Rev. and Mrs. Raymond Lyons.

He was the cherished father of two children, Joyce Holliday of Coshocton, who survives, and H. Robert Gunn, who preceded him in death.  Five grandchildren remain to cherish his memory, Heath (Aimee) Hayes of Cambridge, Heather (Kyle) Hamilton of Kimbolton, Rudy (Abbie) Holliday of Westerville, Jeremy (Alina) Gunn of Oregon, and Abbie (Adam) Moon of Alabama.  Nine great-grandchildren remain, Jennifer (Aaron) Coulter, Zach Chrisman, Jessica Hayes, Matti Chrisman, Hunter and Kole Hamilton, Grant, Grace, and Gwyneth Holliday, and Lilly and Hudson Moon.  Four great-great-grandchildren, complete the family circle.  He is survived by a brother-in-law, Donald (Janice) Lyons of Newark; and several nieces & nephews.

Missing him, also, is his companion cat, Missy.

Harold was a retired employee of General Telephone.  He loved to golf and was one of the eldest members of the Senior golf league in Coshocton.  He was talented and enjoyed woodworking and building.

He was a member of God’s family and the Calvary Baptist Church in Coshocton.  He lived his testimony and set an example for his family and others as he loved and served his Lord.

He will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Private family services will be held in Cambridge with the assistance of Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, on Tuesday (February 23, 2021).  The family will officiate the service.

Due to inclement weather currently, the family will hold a celebration of life service at the Calvary Baptist Church, Coshocton, in April.

A note of thanks from the family to Coshocton Memorial Hospital staff, Interim Hospice staff, and to the staff at Lafayette Pointe who cared so for our loved one.
