Helen Isabelle (Morton) Starr, 90, of Cambridge, passed away on Thursday, September 7, 2023, at Countryview Assisted Living.
Helen was born on May 4, 1933, in Londonderry, Ohio a daughter of the late John and Martha Ann (Campbell) Morton.
Helen graduated from Madison High School in 1951. She worked in the school systems for over 25 years and worked for General Telephone for 10 years.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Lee Starr, who passed away on May 13, 2002, 5 brothers, Duane, Herman, Hobart, Ralph and John Morton, one sister, Dorothy Thomas, her son, William Ralph Starr, and one granddaughter, Samantha Kaye Cassler.
Helen is survived by a son, Joseph Lee (Cinda) Starr of Cambridge, a daughter, Sharon Kaye (Bill) Cassler of Cambridge, a daughter-in-law, Lori Starr of Cambridge her grandchildren, D.J. (Jessie) Cassler, Leslie (Michael Reid) Maggie (Corey) Smith, and Annie (Travis Bess) Starr, her great grandchildren, Michael Reid III, Cameron Cassler, Benjamin Cassler, and Ryker Smith, several nieces and nephews and many, many friends.
Helen loved the Lord and loved her church and church family. She was a member of the Cambridge Christ Global Methodist Church. She served many roles while attending Christ Church, youth leader, Sunday School Teacher, Financial Secretary, Hospitality Committee and singing in the choir. She was an avid baker, known for her homemade bread, nut rolls, and Buckeyes. Helen worked for the Cambridge City Schools for 30 years as a cook where she loved serving the students in her school. She was also a volunteer for Meals and Wheels. Her favorite pastime was following and cheering on the Ohio State Buckeyes and her beloved Cleveland Indians. She cherished times with her family and her church friends.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, September 11, 2023, at Thorn Black Funeral Home in Cambridge from 11AM-1PM, with a service to immediately follow. Pastor Sturman Moore and Pastor Wilbur Bragg will be officiating the service. Burial will follow at Old Washington Cemetery.
